Basics of Package Design

Package design is at its most effective when used as a tool in partnership with the Product’s Designers. Collaboration at an early stage of product design will lead to effective packaging and redevelopment cost savings. Design oversights can lead to potential transit and storage damage which an experienced Packaging Designer will usually recognise.

Performance criteria

In creating an effective packaging specification a comprehensive understanding of the following aspects must be gained:

The product

Transit to destination

Storage

Having collated the information, creation of the specification can be commenced, with consideration of the following aspects:

Cushioning

Support

Bracing

Climatic protection

Outer Container

The final design must be economically viable in supply and provide maximum cost of ownership benefits
